REWE and Chiquita: Biodiversity Partnership

For years, REWE and Chiquita have been highly committed to social and ecological responsibility. The REWE Tropenprojekt contributes to the conservation and improvement of the living conditions in the immediate vicinity of the banana production in the Bocas del Toro province, Panama. The emphasis is put on work in the wetland San San Pond Sak that is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere and RAMSAR area. The main objectives are conservation of biodiversity, promotion of environmental consciousness, strengthening local institutions and generating additional incomes. With the inclusion of new partners in 2009 – the German Development Cooperation GTZ and CORBANA, the representative body of the Costa Rican banana industry – the project could be expanded to Costa Rica.

Inauguration
